9 Amazing Reasons You Should Have a Winter Wedding in Milwaukee

October 16, 2019 by Greg Quigley

Yes, there are reasons to have a winter wedding in Milwaukee! Photo by Lottie Lillian Photography

Ahh summer – we all love it. The downside is everyone is super busy fitting things into their schedule, including weddings. So what about a winter wedding in Milwaukee? We say go for it!

We sat down with our friends from Turner Hall Ballroom to discuss what makes a great winter wedding in Milwaukee. They gave us some great insight and we are super excited to share it with all of the #MKECouples planning their weddings.

We’d also like to thank Turner Hall Ballroom for sponsoring this article and in general being awesome. Now read on to learn why you should have your winter wedding in Milwaukee!

1. Everyone is Busy in Summer

A spring or summer wedding doesn’t just compete with other weddings – it competes with all of the other amazing things going on when the weather is warm. But in the winter months that’s not a problem.

Our friends at Turner Hall Ballroom said pretty much every Saturday in summer is booked a year or two in advance. However, if you are looking at booking in the winter months, chances are you’ll find one of your top dates pretty easily and quickly.

In fact, Turner Hall has 2020-2021 winter wedding dates open and are offering reduced rates and other specials (see more at end of article*).

2. Get The Vendors You Love

Just like everyone else, most wedding vendors aren’t as busy in the winter months. This means when you find that amazing venue, photographer or DJ, they are more-likely to be available for your wedding date. And this is seriously a good thing – it can be quite heartbreaking to miss out on your favorite vendors due to someone else booking them.

3. Amazing Winter Decor and Themes

There’s several benefits of winter weddings, but one that we really love is the decor and themes you can do. We’ve seen some awesome Christmas weddings and New Years Eve weddings, but even if you don’t go for a “holiday theme” the winter wonderland theme is built in when you’re in Wisconsin!

Turner Hall tells us they’ve seen some amazing winter wedding themes – think hot chocolate bars, hot toddy drinks and fabulous winter color combos.

4. Crazy Cool Photo Opps

The lighting. The clouds. The snow and ice. It all adds up to amazing wedding photos you’d never be able to get in summer. There’s just something about winter wedding photos that rock and create lifelong memories.

Our friends at Turner Hall Ballroom tell us they also have amazing winter photo opportunities inside their space. In addition, Turner Hall is located a short walk from many of downtown’s awesome photo opportunities – frozen Milwaukee River anyone??

5. Your Wedding Stands Out

Just having your wedding in the winter makes it stand out from all the spring/summer weddings. Let’s face it, there’s just not as much to do in the winter so many of your guests will welcome the opportunity to party with friends and family.

Add in the unique winter styling options and lighting opportunities (remember, it get’s dark early in January!), and you’ll throw a wedding that will live on in your guests’ memories.

6. Quick Vendor Turnaround = Short Engagement

Are you so in love that you have to get married like RIGHT NOW!?! If so, a winter wedding might be your jam. Since vendors tend to have more open dates and aren’t as busy, you’ll get conversations going faster and can make your wedding happen in a few months.

Turner Hall tells us they have some great open winter dates still available in 2020-2021, so if you wanna tie the knot quickly you absolutely can (Bonus – they offer discounted rates for November-April weddings*).

7. Off-Season Pricing

Some vendors, but not all, have reduced pricing in the winter months. This will vary based on the vendor, but you’ll have the most luck with venues.

For example, Turner Hall Ballroom offers $500 off standard season rates during the months of November-April (see more discounts at the bottom of article*)

8. No Humidity = No Sweating

You know what sucks? Sweating when you’re all dressed up – and on your wedding day you wanna rock your dressed-up self! If you have a winter wedding you can dress to the nines without heating up too much. We also LOVE the winter shawls brides can wear for their cold weather wedding – they add so much style and keep you warm.

9. The Light Works in Your Favor

So you know how it stays light until like 9pm in the summer? It’s great for doing things outside, but if you’re inside for your wedding reception you’ll miss out on your uplighting until the sun goes down. However, at a winter wedding all the gorgeous uplighting, string lights, etc. will really pop and you’ll enjoy them longer.

In fact, Turner Hall is offering complimentary pillar/string lighting ($500 value) for any November-April wedding booked before 12/31/2019*.

In addition to your venue lighting, the light outside can enhance your wedding photos and give them this “winter wonderland” appeal. Downtown Milwaukee has some especially awesome photo opportunities in the winter months.

So if you’re thinking of a winter wedding, you can see there’s a lot of perks. And bonus – amazing spaces like Turner Hall Ballroom not only have winter dates available, they can look amazing with winter decor and lighting!

*Off-Season Discounts at Turner Hall Ballroom

As we mentioned, you can often find discounted rates at venues during their off-season. Turner Hall is no exception and is offering some amazing discounted rates you can see below:

  • Standard Discount for bookings in the months of November-April is $500 off.
  • Weddings booked for the months of November-April before 12/31/2019 get an additional $250 off for a total of $750 off of standard season rates.
