A Note From The Couple
We asked the couple to tell us about their planning and budgeting process, and this is what they had to say:
Our story is a little different than most—when we began planning our June 14th, 2024 wedding, we were already married. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, as well as the fact that we’re a transnational marriage, we needed to get married in the courthouse first. So, our wedding was a formal acknowledgement and celebration of our love, and we wanted to ensure we were saving the best we could.
The Caterer:
We knew right away we wanted to budget the most for quality food and drinks that were a little more unique. My husband and I are from the U.S. and India, so we chose a caterer who could accommodate a unique, “combining-of-cultures” menu.Noble Catering crafted a delicious menu featuring both American appetizers and dinner options, alongside flavorful Indian dishes. Drinks needed to be done through our venue, Dandy, which also took up a majority of our budget.
The Venue:
Dandy is a really unique and fun space! From the street, Dandy looks like a quaint vintage furniture and antique shop. But tucked behind it is an elegant, moody, Milwaukee-industrial event space with two absolutely gorgeous bars. The space’s beautiful gold accents, greenery, and dark wallpaper give it a really fun, art deco vibe. Since the space has its two incredible bars, we wanted an open bar for our guests to sip on fun “his and hers” drinks–alcohol and mixers were chosen from a more basic drink list. Still, alcohol is expensive!
The Stationery and Photographer:
We budgeted quite a bit for our save-the-dates, wedding invitations, and photographer as well. I knew all of these things were important to us, as we’d be able to frame extras and our favorite photos. We wanted these memories to last a lifetime. After assessing all our options, we were a young couple reminding ourselves that while our wedding would be one of the greatest days of our lives, many more beautiful days lay ahead. We can only afford what we can afford.
So, working with Bayview Printing Co. and Ampersand Photography was amazing, because they were able to have very open, honest conversations with us about what we can do with the money we have. They were all significantly more affordable than many other options.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge that we couldn’t have done ANY of this without my parent’s help. My parents are the greatest mom and dad a girl could ever ask for and helped us significantly with paying for everything.
