When we got engaged, we already had the church and our next step was to choose a Milwaukee reception hall. We wanted our reception to be in or around downtown Milwaukee, so that helped narrow our choices a little.
Since there were going to be several out-of-town guests at our wedding, we decided that we’d look at many of the hotels downtown. We called and set up meetings with The Pfister Hotel, The Astor Hotel, The Comfort Inn (which at the time was the Park East Hotel), and a few others.
This is a fun process, since you get to go out and envision your recpetion in these places. Make sure when you go to get pricing on food and check the availablity for your wedding date. Also figure out things like min and max guests, cake fees and any other “fees” the place might want to add. Trust me, they like to add fees!
We ended up choosing the Astor Hotel for the beautiful ballroom, good food prices and location. The were a five minute drive from our church and right around the corner from our apartment at the time.
We did our reception in “cocktail” format, meaning that we didn’t have a sit down dinner, but just had small plate “food stations”. It worked great and we ended up having a great party for all of our friends and family!
