This Boston couple started their relationship in Milwaukee and came back for their wedding – we love that!! This fact drove a lot of their vendor decisions and made them want to create an authentic downtown Milwaukee feel for their big day.

For just under $22,000 they had an awesome wedding at the The Box Milwaukee with all of their venues and hotel in walking distance. We also love that they used MIM Family Member Smoke Shack for delicious BBQ catering!

A Note from the Bride and Groom

We asked the bride and groom to tell us about their planning and budgeting process, and this is what they had to say:

Classic Milwaukee:
Early in our relationship, we lived in the downtown and Third Ward neighborhoods prior to moving to Boston. Coming home for our wedding, we wanted our wedding day to have an authentic downtown Milwaukee feel and also be convenient for our guests.

This drove a lot of our vendor and venue choices (catering, hotel, ceremony, reception, rehearsal dinner). Our venues were all within 4 blocks of each other allowing guests to walk from the Ceremony to the Reception. The Milwaukee Athletic Club provided complimentary shuttle service, as well.

The Planning:
One of the major budget decisions we made was not to use a wedding planner. We wanted our fingerprints on everything at our wedding, so doing all the planning and logistics ourselves was a natural choice.

We wanted a cozy, intimate wedding and our families were extremely helpful in gathering decorations. Jaime and Jamie from The Box also helped with arranging our decorations, the majority of which were personal pieces from our last decade together (photobooks, art pieces, gifts, trinkets).

The mothers of the bride and groom put together many of the decorations used for the reception and the father and uncle of the groom also built monogrammed crates to serve as an alter at the ceremony.

The Rehearsal Dinner:
Planning a wedding from across the county was challenging. Our families were critical to the planning process. In thanks, we hosted the rehearsal dinner in the back bar at Hinterland exclusively for our families and presented each with a thank you gift.

Because our wedding party was composed of our siblings and our miniature Schnauzer, we were able to just celebrate and enjoy the intimate atmosphere without having to reserve an event space.

The Honeymoon:
In order to save money for our honeymoon in Jamaica, we built up airline miles following our engagement. We were able to use these for all of our honeymoon flights, as well for our flights from Boston to Milwaukee and back for our Wedding and planning. We also encouraged guests to gift us excursions through our Resort in Jamaica as Wedding gifts.
